چکیده

We used the standard geometrical thin accretion theory to obtain the accretion rates in Seyfert 1 galaxies and quasars. Combining accretion rates with the bolometric luminosity, we obtained the accretion efficiency. We found most of Seyfert 1 galaxies and radio quiet quasars have lower accretion efficiencies while most of the radio loud quasars possess higher accretion efficiencies. This finding further implies most of radio loud quasars possess Kerr black holes while Seyfert 1 galaxies and radio quiet quasars may not possess Kerr black holes. Considering the difference of the accretion efficiency we found there is a strong correlation between the accretion rate in units of the Eddington accretion rate and the width of the Hβ emission line and most of AGNs are not accreting at Super-Eddington rates.

Growth of Massive Black Holes during Radiatively Inefficient Accretion Phases

We derive the black hole mass density as a function of redshift from the hard X-ray AGN luminosity function assuming that massive black holes grow via accreting the circumnuclear gases. The derived black hole mass density matches the measured local black hole mass density at z = 0, which requires the average radiative efficiency of AGNs to be ∼ 0.1 − 0.17. The massive black holes in most faint ...

The relation between star formation rate and accretion rate in LINERs

It is argued that there is a linear correlation between star formation rate (SFR) and accretion rate for normal bright active galactic nuclei (AGNs). However, it is still unclear whether this correlation holds for LINERs, of which the accretion rates are relatively lower than those of normal bright AGNs. The radiatively inefficient accretion flows (RIAFs) are believed to be present in these LIN...

The Role of Thermal Conduction in Accretion Disks with Outflows

In this work we solve the set of hydrodynamical equations for accretion disks in the spherical coordinates (r,θ,ϕ) to obtain the explicit structure along θ direction. We study a two-dimensional advective accretion disc in the presence of thermal conduction. We find self-similar solutions for an axisymmetric, rotating, steady, viscous-resistive disk. We show that the global structure of an advec...

Are the Jets Accelerated from the Disk Coronas in Some Active Galactic Nuclei?

We use a sample of radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with estimated central black hole masses to explore their jet formation mechanisms. The jet power of AGNs is estimated from their extended radio luminosity. It is found that the jets in several AGNs of this sample are too powerful to be extracted from the standard thin accretion disks or rapidly spinning black holes surrounded by stand...

TIMESCALES OF SOFT X-RAY VARIABILITY AND PHYSICAL CONSTRAINTS IN AGNs

We present soft X-ray variability time-scales for 65 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) derived from ROSAT/PSPC pointing data. For these 65 objects with obvious exponential increasing or decreasing patterns in their light curves, we use the exponential time-scales and find they are more suitable for analyzing ROSAT light curve data. We also discuss some physical constraints on the central engine imp...
